FINAL REPORT ON PLN

My PLN (Personal Learning Network) has really helped me stay organized. Everything is in one place. Before we began this class this semester, I didn't know anything about PLNs. Now, I use this particular networking system for assistance frequently. My PLN helps me find pertinent information that will guide me through out my teaching career.
It is quite impossible to finish adding vital resources.

BLOG POST 15 FINAL REFLECTION

LAST C4T 4

web address

This blog post talks about a language competition. Students from all over the world compete in the competition. The students try to solve problems for points. Language perfect is an online program that test reading, writing and listing skills. Many students play the program for fun. The blog post informs everyone how to sign up for the competition. Student will be competing with other schools, countries and against each other. Over a 120,000 students from over 20 countries will take part in the competition. More than 50,000 vocabulary questions are expected to be answered. Students are giving a question if they get it correct they receive a point. If they answer incorrectly then they are given the correct answer.

My response
I think that the Language Perfect World Championships is a great way for students to learn new and exciting words. I can't believe that I have never heard of this competition. I seems like it could be a lot of fun and I would love to try to compete if it one day. Maybe one year I will be able to enter the championship.

November comment for kids

The Benzing Girls Shows

Amber talks about both sides of her family. On her mother side there is a larger amount of people. When her mother side of the family has gatherings the children put on a show for everyone to see. The girls practice a lot for dance routines that they perform. The girls would perform their shows at relative’s houses. Although, they mostly did dance routines sometimes they would try different shows. Once they put on a play. They acted out a play about trolls that one of the cousins wrote. They were asked to make up a dance routines for one of their aunts wedding. The girls were excited because that was their first time dancing in front of other people besides family.

MY RESPONSE
I also have a really big family. Whenever my family had gathering all of the kids would play volleyball and the whole family would watch. I think that you have a close family and it seems like you had a fun childhood. I believe that all families should have a close bond like your family. Recording your dance routines has given you memories that can be view forever.

Outstanding October!

Outstanding October is a class blog post written by a boy named Patrick T. Patrick attends the school of rock. The blog post tells people about the fun things that his class did in the month of October.
The class first big writing assignment was to write a terrifying story. Patrick story was about a little boy and his sister waking up in a mansion with an murderer lurking inside it! Not all of the stories were scary, a few stories we funny and twisted. His class also had the opportunity to communicate with a professional veterinarian through face-time. The program kind of reminds me of Skype because both programs allow you to talk and see other people from different locations. Patrick class celebrated Halloween by having a science festival called the Monster Bash. Students were allowed to invite their parents to come watch them play around with science experiments.
On Halloween his school had a big party and a parade. All of the students got to march around the school in their Halloween costumes. Patrick added a link to a video that he creates to highlight the month of October.

MY RESPONSE
Time really does fly by when you are having that much fun in school. I would have loved to attend a school that celebrated Halloween with parades and parties. I think that it is awesome that your school allows you to wear your Halloween costume to school. When I was in grade school I didn’t get to have as much fun as your class, I was lucky if I got a party. Face-time is new to me but, it reminds me of a program named Skype. Both of the programs allow you to communicate with other in different locations.

Alienation

This blog post was written by a 10 grade student named Adrianna. The post is about Adrianna's friend who is very depressed. Her friend text her and tell her that she is thinking about killing herself because a boy will not take to her. Adrianna ends up talking her friend out of killing herself. This is a sad situation which happens to often with young girls around the world. I glad that Adrianna was able to talk her friend out of killing herself.

MY RESPONSE

You should feel proud of yourself for helping save your friend life. Most people that think about killing themselves usual reach out to others for help before they actually do it. You are a really good friend to her.

Back to the future

This video was posted by a teacher named Brian Crosby. The video explains how he incorporated technology into his classroom. Most of the students in his class spoke English as a second language. Each student in his class was required to have a blog so that they could embed videos of themselves. Mr. Crosby had his students record a hot air balloon experiment involving their "high hopes". The balloon experiment created confidence in all of his students. The video also received comments for other people.

A Vision of Students Today

Chalkboards are becoming outdated as technology demand increases. Student don’t want to sit in an over packed classroom watching a teacher write a boring lesson on the chalkboard. Most students would rather play on their ipads or cell phone. Since most student already own these devises teachers should allow students to use them to learn. Many schools are not able to afford computers for each student. Allow students to bring their own computers and smart phones could help benefit classrooms. Teachers would be able to expand their lessons and make them more current with the internet. Computers and smart phones offer visual pictures and different resource. Most site on the internet are free and user friendly.

I believe the message that “A Vision of Students Today” is trying to teach educators the important of using technology in the classroom. Computers and cellphones call be used to help students learn at their own pace and have fun at the same time. Students are going to use smart phones and tablets in school whether they are ban or not. Teachers should just allow students to use them in a positive way. Students are communicating, sending pictures to each other, using social media and social networking, and consuming information on a daily bases anyway. Teachers should use social media and messaging as a way to communicate with their students and allow students to collaborate with each other using these devices. Different views on the same subject can be helpful for students.

The video screams for teachers to start covering relevant material and let students uses updated technology in the classroom. Smart phones and computers can instantly link students to current information. Teachers shouldn't be afraid to allow student to use their technology if they are using them for an educational purpose.

PROJECT 13

Progress Report on Final Project

The name of my group is The June Girls, because we are all born in the month of June. For our final group project we decided to create a 10 minute video about EDM 310. The title of the video is " Advice for Future EDM 310 students." I think that this video will help all future students because it informs them about the different task that they must do in EDM 310. This video will help teach students why it is important to stay on top of each assignment.

Our group has meet several times to work of the video. Each member has done their fair share of the work. We hold group meeting on the days that EDM 310 don't have classes.

CREATE MY OWN BLOG ASSIGNMENT

1.Watch this Video: Pinterest tutorial 1:32
After watching the video, explain what Pinterest is and discuss education ideas that you can post on Pinterest.

Pinterest is a virtual pin board that lets people organize and share ideals that they find on the web. Pinterest allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections. If you find something interesting online you can pin the picture up on your pin board. Members of Pinterest can browse other pin boards for inspiration. If they see something that they like they can re-pin the image to their own collections or like the photo. Most Pin boards are listed by themed so that pins can easily be organized, categorized and discovered by other users.

Pinterest is a powerful tool that can be used for many different purposes. Many teachers have already taken advantage of the many different tools that pinterest has to offer. Teachers can use Pinterest to find lesson plans and organize their ideals. A board can be created for each subject and unit to help the teachers keep ideals organized. Teachers can collaborate with other teachers that share the same interest. They can share lesson plans, projects and teaching ideals. The DIY and Crafts category on Pinterest can help teachers find great craft ideals for their classrooms. Last week I created a Pinterest account and spent hours playing around with different craft projects.

“Little Kids… Big Potential”

The YouTube video “Little Kids… Big Potential” made me realize that small kids enjoy learning on their own. In the video children discuss many different resources that they have learned in their classroom. The children also shared what they liked about each resource. The children in this class learned how to blog, use a webpage, use wikis and add videos to their blog.

The students in this class love writing on their class blog. The students are excited that other people can see their blog and leave comments. The students believe that blogging helps them become better writers. Mrs. Cassidy’s class enjoys using the class webpage to learn new information. The class blog is setup for students to click on pictures to make information pop up. The webpage helps children work on different subject. Students can choose to work on whatever subject they need the most help in. Mrs. Cassidy introduced her student to a program named Wikis. Wikis allow students to post questions that they would like to have answered by other people. The teacher also taught her students how to make videos of what they have learned for their blog. Skype is another resource that the students are using in this classroom. Skype is used to communicate with others. The most amazing resource that the students use is Nintendo DS’s . The DS teach how to become better decision makers and how to share with others.

I would use blogging in my classroom for several reasons. Students could learn new information from others and work on their writing skills at the same time. Blogging would allow my students to receive instant feedback from others. One impediment that I would put into place would be to have all comments approved by me before they can be posted to my student’s blog. I would proofread them to check negative feedback. All of the negative comments get rejected.

A world where grades will be left behind

MR. Thrun, started a free online artificial intelligence course named Udacity. The course was free and available to anyone who wanted to learn. Students were never late for class and they couldn’t fail. Udacity allowed people to choose between several free online course taught by professionals around the world. More than 160,000 people join this class. He liked the turnout and decided to open up his own education company. Offices at this company have video cameras that capture instructors as they write figures and diagrams on white boards. Udacity also have staff members that create computer based educational games.
Mr.Thrun believes that in the next 30 years more classrooms could be online. The online class could hold as few as ten and up to hundreds of thousands of students. He also states that grades won’t exist anymore. Students will be allowed to take as much time as they need to master a concept. According to Mr. Thrun instruction will be free to everyone. Services such as certification and exams may involve a fee. In the future online schools will be able to accommodate larger amounts of people at a free or low price.

MY RESPONSES

I can see all of Mr. Thrun’s ideals becoming true in the future. The reason that I agree with him is because I already see education courses being taught online. Currently, schools are already offering classes online. Many students would rather take an online class than be in a lecture classroom. Online classes allow you to work at your own pace. I also believe that fun videos and games could help students learn more. I would much rather be playing an educational than reading a boring book.

Technology In The Classroom

"Technology in the classroom" is a blog written by students in a US history class.Everyday different students take turns updating the class blog. The class is named US History Research Seminar and is called ushrs for short. The teacher's name is Mark and he teaches his students the importance of technology and social media in the classroom. He allows his class to blog and use twitter to communicate with other students around the world by posting their work on the internet for everyone to see. Posting their work online gives the students the chance to receive instant feedback from other viewing their blog.
This class also helps students work on their writing skills through blogging. Especially, by using correct grammar and punctuation. Students and write freely in this class without being contained to paper and pens. The teacher in this class feels that blogging and social media can play an important role in helping students understand topics, improve writing skills, and learn great forms of communication.

MY RESPONSE

I am happy to learn that a class like this is offered in high school. When I attended high school, history was just another lecture class that required lots of note taking. I Didn’t learn anything about blogging until I reached college.Teaching kids that technology can be used for other purpose besides entertainment is wonderful. Technology can be used for many purposes and learning is one of them. I also think that the teacher is are correct when he say that blogging helps students improve their writing skills. I believe that the more that you do something the better you will become at doing it. Blogging can become fun once you get the hang of it. One great benefit of blogging is that you can get instead feedback for others around the world. Students can receive a lot of different opinions as well.

This week I was assigned to a 4th grade class blog. The 4th graders who wrote the blog are from the UK. The blog is about a story that the teacher read to the class called "The Three Little Bears". The students in this class pretended to be goldilocks and wrote an apology letter to the bears. They explained to the bears why she ate their food and broke their chairs. The children even tried to correct her mistake by saying that her daddy would fix the chair. The letter was short and sweet. The lesson that this class is learning will help them be caring adults when they become older. It takes a big person to apologize when they have done something wrong.

My response

I love the message that your class is learning from reading this story. Apologizing when you do something wrong is a noble thing to do.People are more willing to forgive when they hear the sincerity in your words. Keep up the great work!

The Outsiders Characterization: Ponyboy

This blog was written by a student named Thomas. In the blog post, Thomas describes characteristics of another little boy named Pony Boy. Pony Boy is a charter from the book called the "outsider" who is caring and brave. He cares about his family and other people. In the book the boy runs into a lot of trouble.

My response

You did a great job telling your readers about the character from the story. I think that it is sad that this little boy had to see someone get killed. This boy in this story had to be very brave to help save kids from a fire. The story helps people understand that a hero could be the person that you least expected.

On The Telly
On the Telly is a blog post that was posted by two America people living in Ireland. The post informed people about what was aired on Ireland's television stations. I was excited to learn that they are keeping up with the United States news. The blog post also informed us about the economic crisis in Ireland. Ireland's crisis reminded me a lot of the recession in United States. I am glad that they posted this information on their blog. I believe that it is important that we try to stay in tune with the world around us.

My response

I am happy to hear that you are being updated on the news here in the US.The Sky News channel seems to be reporting the same stories we hear in the US. The election and hurricane are all over the news. Reading your blog post makes me feel connected to an news channel in Ireland. Its sad to hear that they had to receive a bailout and are in debt because of it. Ireland seems to be following in the US footprints. The US is trying to come out of an recession and Ireland is going into a recession. I am disappointed to learn that Ireland reflects U.S. tv in a bad way. I wish that they would air positive U.S. tv shows instead of negative shows.

blog post 10

I'm A papermate. I'm a ticonderoga.

The message that I received from this picture post was amazing.Pictures say a thousand words in this post. My understanding of this picture is that schools and parents need to invest more into their children's education.Going the cheaper way will only cost you money in the long run.Although Paper-mate is cheaper, it just doesn't last as long as the Ticonderoga brand. If schools would invest in technology product such as computers and tablets, they would end up saving money in the long run. Buying paper and books cost a lot more because when new information comes out, they cant use the same book they have to pay for more books;Computers would save money because everything is done electronically.

Why are your kids playing games?

"Why are your kids playing games" is about a teacher being coached by his boss for playing educational games instead of teaching.I think more teachers should be more like this teacher. Students tend to learn more whenever they are having fun and become involved in the lesson.Feeding children information from a text will do nothing for them. With this type of teaching students will only remember the information long enough to pass the test, they will not learn the information. Hands-on learning helps students understand the concept and learn the lesson easier. I would much rather play a game involving a lesson than do worksheets.I believe that worksheets are just busy work and they don't teach students anything.
Mr. Spencer is a great writer. I viewed his blog and found another interesting blog post entitled "10 Points on Pencils".Mr. Spencer addresses the school Superintendent about why he doesn't use pencils in his classroom. A few of his reasons for not using pencils remind me of edm310.Just like Mr. Johnson we don't use paper or pencil in edm310. All of our learning is do on computers.Pencils and paper are played out just like the chalk board. Technology is allowing use to learn the same material as before with using up natural resources.Mr. Spencer made a good point when he stated that children are learning even when they are using technology to pass notes and communicate with each other. I agree with him because the students are still learning. Taking cellphones and tables out of the classroom is not the answer to solving this problem. Students are still going to find ways to bring these items to school. Most kids own cellphones and tablets.Schools should use this to their advantage and allow kid to use them to learn with.

Don’t teach your kids this stuff. Please?

I can really relate to this blog post. I think that all teachers should view the post by Mr. Scott. Many school are afraid of technology in their classrooms because they are afraid of what students might do with it.Many people are missing out on all of the great things that technology has to offer because they are worried about the negative parts of it. These people should spend more time worrying about the positive aspects of technology. Technology is not always bad. Technology can open a doorway to a whole new type of learning.

What I've Learned This Year (2008-09)

(May 27, 2009) What I've Learned This Year (2008-09) by Joe McClung contains pointers that I will utilize as I go into my first year of teaching. Mr. McClung shared a few helpful things that he learned his first year of teaching. A few things that he shared with us is: How to Read the Crowd,Be Flexible,Communicate,Be Reasonable,do not be Afraid of Technology,Listen to Your Students, and never stop learning.
How to read to the crowd helped me understand how important it is to focus on the student when you read to make sure that they are comprehending what you are reading. Mr. McClung says not to focus on yourself and how you read. Our lessons should be student-centered. Another lesson he learned that year was to be flexible with his students. He learned that things don't always go as planned. I agree with him when he said, "there is no perfect lesson". I find this to be true for a lot of other things as well. No matter how much I plan an event something different always seem to happen. Mr. McClung learned that he couldn't always control things. He had to learn to accept that he couldn't control everything and to just do the best that he could with a smile on his face. I think this is a good way to look at things that you can't control. My motto is to do the best that you can and don't worry about the rest.
Mr.McClung learned that the best way to solve workplace drama or feuds is to communicate with others. Many issue can be worked out if people simply talked with each other in an adult manner. He also learned that communication helps you build strong relationships with other teachers. He learned to be responsible when he set goals for his students. He also informs us not to set our expectations too high when it comes to our students.I agree with his reason for not doing this.We don't want to get mad when our students fail and lash out at them.Teachers are supposed to help guild students in the right direction and not fuss at them when they don't meet our set goals.
He explains that technology is something that has to be learned over time.He also encourages us not to get mad and give up when we don't understand something. Technology can be helpful once we learn how to use it. There is no reason to be afraid of it. He learned that teachers can build respect in student-teacher relationships by listing to their students.I believe that students are more willing to learn and behave when they feel like the teacher listens to their ideals.
Last but not least Mr.McClung learned that if he wanted to be a good teacher that he must never stop learning. He believes it is never to late to change or learn new things.

What I Learned This Year – Volume 4

In the 2011-2012 school year, Mr. McClung learned two themes about teaching. In the 2011 school year he learned not to be concerned with what his peers thought of him. The only thing that mattered to him was that his students liked him and were having a good time in his class.People's opinions shouldn't worry you.Everyone needs to take advice from Mr.McClung and forget what others have to say about the way that you are doing something. The only thing a teacher should worry about is their students. He also learned to not get to comfortable with the way that you teach because it will show. Always try to learn new things and introduce them to your students.Learning new things will keep you from losing your touch and falling into a boring routine.

Productivity Tools for Educators
This blog was written by Jeff Delp a junior high principal. He believes that technology should be used to improve productivity and help people assess important information. Mr. Delp also believes that schools are wasting money and natural resources by printing copies.
I strongly agree with him. The technology of today world allows us to use computers and internet to interact with others instead of using paper. Using internet to communicate with others can help save trees and money. This is clearly a better alternative to buying expensive ink and copy paper. He also believes that modeling good technology will lead to better students. It is also the teacher’s responsibility to model good use of technology when teaching the class.
Technology can be used for managing tasks and duties. Mr.Delp listed six tools that he uses on a daily base to help model technology usage for his teaching staff. He usage of Google Docs, Ever note, Drop box, Wunderlist, Prosperous and Twitter help him stay organized.

1. Google Docs- This is an app that people can go to and collaborative documents together. Many people can work and make changes to the same document. It can be assess from any computer and is always saved. So there is no more worrying about losing your flash drive. The sharing options make it easy to collect, organize and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

2. Evernote - is like a big filling cabinet. It can also be used to capture and save images to your computer. Ever notes are also a great way to take notes.

3. Dropbox- can be used to save project. This can keep people from lugging around papers all of the time. Drop box even allow people to share files with others.

4. Wunderlist - This is a task management tool. This app collects information that you give it and sort it into different list. Lists may be shared with others so that teams may work collaboratively on the same tasks.

5. Posterous - is a blogging platform that allows people to share ideal and conversations to enhance professional development. Posterous is a great platform for beginners.

6. Twitter - is a social media tool that can be used to engage if conversation with other schools and educators.

MY RESPONSE

Hi MR. Delp,
I am currently a college student that is in need of some time management skills. I found a few of the source that you listed to very helpful. I was already aware of twitter and drop box. The other three sources are new to me and I plan of making good use of the right away. Ever note caught my attention the most. I love the fact that you can take notes with it. Ever notes can help save me a lot of money on paper and is better for the environment. This will help me stay organized because I will be able to just go right to the computer and find my notes instead of flipping throw pages.

Staying Plugged In
Mr. Depp tries to stay current on the latest technology. He also encourages his staff members to take appropriate risk when they are teaching. Mr. Depp tries to make his decision based on the needs of his students and staff members. This is not always easy for him, at times he the struggles with decision making. In other for him to be a good effective Principe he has to be able to balance several task at the same time.

As a principle Mr. Depp is responsible for many task such as hiring people, paperwork, school meeting, budgets, etc. Although, he is responsible for this task he also is responsible for many other. His most important task is to make sure that he stays connected in the classroom with the teachers and students. He needs to be able to relate to his teaching staff. He can do this by sitting in the classroom during lecture and taking notes. Sitting in the classroom will give him a chance to truly understand teacher’s daily challenges.

MY RESPONSE

I never really thought that Principles had to do so many tasks at one time. Reading your blog post about staying plugged in has really made me realize just how important principles are to school. I don't think just anyone could become a principle. It takes a special type of person to be a principle. A principle should be organized, nice, caring and current on all new forms of technology.

School's out Friday

School’s out Friday is a blog post that is about Felix Baumgartner's. He is a sky jumper that is sponsored by red bull to jump out of planes. The coolest part about this post is that two video were posting of sky jumping. One post was about a human jumping and the other was a reenactment with Lego’s of the first video. The second video had Lego jumping out of the plane. The teacher also goes on to tell about an academic achievement day that they had for the students for her school. The school reward students for having good grades.

MY RESPONSE

I loved the reenactment of the Lego’s jumping out of the plane. It almost looked like the real thing. I also think that it’s great that your school recognizes students for having good greats. From a student’s point of view it’s wonderful to have your family and friend present to see you receive rewards for having good grades. I also agree that today children will be able to help shape the future of tomorrow.

BLOG # 8

THIS IS HOW WE DREAM PART 1 AND 2

Technology is forever changing and its very important that we try to keep up with it before it past us by. I own an laptop, computer and an droid that are becoming out dated as I type this blog. It amazes me how technology changes everyday. There is always a new version of something coming out to replace the old version. This is how we dream part 1 and 2 are great example of technology changing around me.
I agree with these videos, writing has changed, learning matters, and it is important to know how to research appropriately and synthesize what you have gathered effectively. Moreover, in order to demonstrate these relevant skills we should practice them.Since a little girl I have always been told practice makes perfect. In the videos there were several examples of how Dr. Richard E. Miller used virtual books or digital composing to gather information and display it publicly. He used pertinent images, audios, and beautiful colors to capture significant moments. Dr. Richard E. Miller shows how there are no limits to technology, and it continually grows before the eye.
After watching those videos, I feel that I would be great at creating collaborative documents, via internet. I will make it my duty to be an tech literate teacher. I will become skilled at multimedia. After I have mastered the process, I will then share it with my students so they can benefit, and began exploring and learning, as well.

Carly Pugh

I must say that I enjoy Carly's laid-back, reader-friendly writing style. Her Blog post #12 was intellectual, creative, and inspirational. In her post she had to create an assignment that she thought should be incorporated into EDM310. Her idea was to create a youtube playlist of at least 10 videos that encompass above all your teaching philosophy and incorporate what you have learned in EDM310. Then you would write a blog post about said philosophy and your playlist. What an appropriate post for teaching visual literacy! In the same way that Carly uses youtube in this post to convey her teaching philosophy, she could easily compile a youtube montage to teach future students. This technology and idea crosses disciplinary lines. It could be used just as easily by a Math teacher or a History teacher. Her post incorporates all the elements of a true visual document. One last note about Carly, Her post was amazing to watch because the blog background changed pictures.

Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies

I really learned a lot from these videos. A few good tips that I got from both of these blogs was that EDM310 is only as hard as you make it. Procrastination and looking for the "easy answer" will not cut it in this class. Also, one of the keys to success in EDM310 is to use the resources and tutorials provided. It's amazing how easy it can be to answer your own questions using the tools provided by the blog, facebook, and instruction manuals.Since enrolling in edm310 I have found the lab and it members to be quite helpful.Im not quite sure what I would create a video about as of now.Whenever I do decide I will make sure that It have bright colors and a helpful message that others can use.

LEARN TO CHANGE,CHANGE TO LEARN

The video had various professionals speaking on their insight of technology and how it is no longer a choice but it is required for producing productive citizens. One of the speakers made an interesting statement about how technology is not just for educator, it for everyone because technology is emerging quickly. Another speakers stated that " We should produce brave children". I loved this statement because that is my ultimate goal for becoming a teacher is to help create, and discover all children's unique abilities.

Scavenger Hunt on Web 2.0

The first tool I found was a video tool I had never used before called Animoto.
This site takes your photos, videos, and music and turns it into a unique video using what they call "Cinematic Artificial Intelligence," which is supposed to make each video take on the style of the selected music and images. Cinematic AI is also supposed to be like having a professional director and editor for your movie. Movies can also be done in HD and look professional because there is no Animoto label in the video. This site also provides a music gallery and a large style library that helps you set the tone of the video you are producing.

The second Tool I found was how to create poll anytime or anywhere. This tool allow you to Make your own poll voting question with Poll Everywhere.

The third tool that I found on this site was Photo peach.

blog post 7

The network student

I believe that students need teachers to answer questions that they cannot find online or just to point them in the right direction. Network teachers have an responsibility to help students learn. In today world students have a lot of outside source that can help the learn. These outside source can be helpful in helping students learn if they are used in the correct way. I believe that it is the teacher responsibility to teach the student how to search and find correct site to use. As technology advances teachers will no longer stand in front of class and give out boring lectures, instead they will be off to the side on the computers right along with students letting them figure out for themselves how to do an assignment and only stepping in on really difficult portions.Students will be force to learn things on there own without someone telling them.I believe that if you learn something on your own that it will stick with you longer.

On the other hand, I think that while this type of learning is just now getting off the ground it will still be in the first steps by the time I get in a classroom so I know that I will be getting used to it right along with all the other teachers and that hopefully if it does not work there will be a way for some teachers to stay in a traditional education setting.

Edm 310 is helping me get prepared for teaching children of the future.Just like the blog about the network student my teachers is also helping us learn how to learn. Dr.Strange is teaching our class how to blog about what we have learned and also how to research and use new tools. he don't always tell us how to do something instead the tell us about tools and sites that can teach us how to do it. We have to learn how to do some task on our on through trail and error. If we happen to get stuck he is there for us to offer advice that can lead us to solving our problem. In the beginning of the school year I thought that I would hate the class. Since i began to learn how to do project and other task on my own this has became my new favorite class.I love how excited I become when I figure something new out for myself. If I am going to become an effective teacher I will have to learn how to do new task on my own before I can ask student to do it.Technology is forever changing so I will be forever learning.

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment (or PLN)
I believe this 7th grader is using technology to its advanatge. She has been taught to use and navigate through the internet and put her PLN together well. She has everything she needs a click away. It was really great to see someone else's PLN and see how they are using it to better themselves and learn. I think it was a well presented PLN. Keep up the great work.

Project 9 timetoast

blog post 6

In this video, Dr. Randy Pausch discussed several methods of teaching. At the beginning, he mentioned getting the fundamentals done first. Students need to understand that learning can be fun even though it is hard work. A student needs to learn his alphabet before he learns how to read or they need to know their numbers before they can do math.

In my opinion higher learning evolves from lower levels. This means that the small lesson must be learned in other to learn bigger lessons.

Mr. Pausch certainly have left an amazing legacy for himself, and I am quite thankful that I was able to watch it. Although he died at the age of 47 for cancer, he left a lot of wonderful lesson for us all. Their where numerous lessons that I learned while watching this video. The three most important things that I learned from that speech was to never give up, help others, and to be truthful.
In addition, I will be sure to incorporate other such lessons that Mr. Pausch mentioned, such as always bring something to the table, strive to have high expectations, never give up, show humility, and work hard. If all teachers were like Mr. Pausch, we would have less people dropping out of school, less people going to jail, and other positive situations would transpire out of his encouraging profound influence. I love the "head fake" teaching method . He also reminded me that you can't get any where far in this world, alone. For many years, that was my mistake, I truly thought that I didn't need any extra help, nor did I understand the great impact that my fellow classmates could have on my education. In essence, I will be sure to not only teach my students, but I will also learn from them, as well. Like the video, "The Last Lecture", I will teach by example meaning, I will show them I care for them first, then enforce positive actions, and then implement the same actions with in myself, every single day! I also enjoyed when he spoke about "keeping your child hood imagination alive". I loved this particular segment, because I am a fan of, "thinking big" and I have an awesome imagination. This type of attitude can become contagious in your classroom, which is exactly what we are trying to accomplish as future teachers. Overall, Mr. Randy is teaching us the values of good character skills, and who wouldn't want to be remembered by that significant title? Live right, sew good seeds, and you will reap great benefits, this was the main point that I gathered from this intense yet, adorable unforgettable moment. Life is short to let it go to waste.

The iSchool initiative
The ischool initiative is a youtube video that incourage schools and students to use the iphone to help teach the ischool. the ischool would be build on apples itouch platform. The ischool could save the school and tax payers a lot of money. The ischool will cut down on the cost of copy as well as text books. Also every type of materal that you will need in class can be found on the ischool. No need for paper and pens. This program remind me of EDM310 because it is ran without paper or pens.
A few app that are already available to teachers and students on the iphone are;email, world wiki,Formulae,Recorder, Calendar and Classic. Email can be used to help teachers, students and parents communicate with each other. The email app also allow students and parents to keep up with assignments and due dates. World wiki can be used in social studies to find maps and globes. formulae is another great app that can be used to locate all math and science formulas.Iphone has a record that allows stuents to record lecture and share them with others. Calendar is another app that allow students to write down important due dates and assignments.classic is am cool app that let students read textbooks online.

Each of these apps could help change the way school is taught. These apps could save the school a lot of money and help same the environment at the same time. school wouldn't have to waste a lot of money proving textbook in each subject for each child. Children could could use apps online to view most of their textbooks. Many of these apps can be used to help student interact with their teacher away for the school.these apps could come in handy if the student forgot how to do something or was absent for school.
Travis Allen's ZeitgeistYoungMinds
In February 2011 a revaluation was started by travis allen. A nonprofit organization started that encourage school to use ischool to teach students. He has a team of 25 students that go around the world inspiring other to embrace I school.I believe that ischool will be welcomed by many schools and students. ischool would make learning and being organized easier for most students.I school would make learning relent and fun for all students.
Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir
Jennifer Chambers found this awesome video, Eric Whitacre's "Virtual Choir". My reaction to this video was quite interesting, because the sound was beautiful, the involvement with 185 people was astonishing, to me as well. To actually know that none of these people knew each other is also interesting. Eric Whitacre's deserves great recognition for this well thought of performance via internet. The virtual choir demonstrates the great distances that technology can reach through learning via music.
Teaching in the 21st Century
Kevin Roberts, has a informative video called, "Teaching in the 21st Century" it explains what it means to be a 21st century teacher. The video goes in to great detail about Bloom's Taxonomy and how education has changed today because information can be found any where, any time, and at any place. However, we as teachers are responsible for discerning if the information is relevant, challenging, and engaging. In addition, that is what it means to be a 21st century teacher.Mr. Roberts believes that teaching can change due to the information provided.. I am certain that things will change for me as a future educator because it will no longer be knowledge getting crammed in one ear and spilling right back out of the other. The students will actually have to put in efforts on projects and assignments instead of throwing things together at the last minute. I will require my student to explain and know what things mean.
Flipped Classroom
Katie Gimbar is a math teacher who came up with an online program to help all of her students learn at their own pace. She was not meeting the needs of all of her students. She was teaching only to certain students. Student who understood the lesson were board and other kids that didn’t understand stop trying. She flipped the classroom by changing the way that she taught. She created online videos that allow student to preview the lesson being taught. Students could learn at their own pace. Questions could also be posted if a student got lost. This is a great way to help obtain extra help without feeling embarrassed. Many students get embarrassed by others and will not ask question if they don’t understand something. Students that master the lesson can move forward to the need lesson so that they are not board. Online video can used to make sure every student learn. As a future teacher I believe that all teachers should use programs like these to make sure that all students in their class learn the material.
I could use online videos as a teaching aid to help me reach the students that don't get it in class. My doing this I can ensure that each student learns at their own pace and are able to past my test.

Preparation for Podcast

After reading and viewing these videos about podcast Practial principals,Podcasting with 1st graders, and Judy Scharf Podcast Collection, I learned a lot of information on how to create an meaningful podcast. Before taking this class I didn't know what the word podcast even meant. I am confidence that I can create an awesome podcast because on these videos.
Practical Principals, went in to depth about making music via Garage Band. Garage Band is a skill that is needed to enhance your podcast. It is quite entertaining, as well. Regardless, if you are a musician or just beginning you will find Garage Band to be useful when you create your own podcast.

Podcasting with 1st grade showed me how eager some children are to learn new task. These 1st graders listen to 2nd graders and got excited about learning and wanted to record their own voice for other people to hear.I think that it is amazing how children so small can be motivated by others. Garageband is a program that the children used to record their voice, as well as edit out the bad parts.Children can create a recording to help them or other read alone with the stories. If I was a child I would find this type of learning a lot more interesting this listen to the same old boring person read to me.Its exciting to hear your own voice read to you.
Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
This post consist of various elements of podcasting. The first is the general idea of what a podcast is
-Podcast are presented in "radio style"
-Podcast can include music
-Podcast shares vital information
Secondly, I gathered that teachers should use podcast rather often, because it facilitates learning. At the very end of the post there were many beneficial suggestions to follow. Before actually doing your podcast, you should prepare. You will have to learn how to work with programs that will be assisting you.

Cheat Sheet for the First Days of School
After summer break teachers must learn to get back into the swing of things. These are three great ways to help teachers get back on track.1) Develop an easy slogan for expectations in your classroom. This is a great way to have children remember the classroom rules. When the children learn the slogan they associate it with the rules that they are suppose to follow. Most of the children will not forget or break the rules because they know how you expect them to act from the first day of school.2) Be very transparent about the way you grade your classes.Students should be graded by there effort and proficiency.Set expectation for the class in the beginning and try to keep grading fair for all students.3) Schedule a time to reflect on your practice and stick to it. Take time to review the way that you grade. Twitter or Facebook are good sites for teachers to join. These sites are good ways to help each other troubleshoot issues or provide sympathetic ears for stories of their own classrooms.
MY COMMENT
I think that it is a good ideal for teachers to have some type of game plan in place before the first day of school. Teachers should be aware of the rules that they would like for the class to follow and inform them of the rule the first day of school. This should help students know what is expected of them and what will happen if they don't follow the rules. Slogans are good ways to remember things.Slogans should something fun and easy to remember. Other good point that were make in this blog was to keep grading fair and to reflect on the way that you grade.
Is Every Single Subject Taught in High School a Mistake?
I really enjoyed reading this blog post.I can truly understand why many students hate school because they don't like that they are learning.Back when I was in high school was boring I hated science class. All we ever did was memorize fact on stuff that I haven't had to apply to the real world yet.I agree with Mr. Schank say that schools should teach topic that relate to real life. Kids will enjoy talking about things that are or will some be affect them.He pointed out a few good topic that schools should cover such as, financial literacy, learning about their bodies and sex education.
MY COMMENT
I posted this comment on the blog
That was a great link that you added to you page. I'm glad to see that someone thinks just like me. Kids should be learning about things that relate to them instead of memorizing boring fact that they will need use.Children relate to things that are current in today's world.

BLOG POST 3

PEER EDITING
Peer editing can be fun as well as alot of hard work. The fun part is being able to interact with the peers in your class in a positive way.The hard part is correcting your peers. Some people may be afraid of offending others by correct their work. The key to solving this problem is to correct the paper using positive feed back. No one likes to get negative feedback.
I learn to give good positive feedback from the video that we were assigned to watch. When giving feedback to other peers it is very important to follow these three steps. 1. Compliment your peer on what they have written before you tear them apart.Another helpful step to peer editing is to suggest way that the person can fix the problem. Telling someone that what they have written is wrong will not help the person fix the problem. The best thing to do is offer them ways to fix the problem.
TECHNOLOGY IN SPECIAL EDUCATIONTechnology can help struggling students interact and communicate better in the classroom.Computers are good form of technology that can be uses in the classroom. Computers can help students with disadvantage such as not talking are being able to write.computers can help them write and get lesson done a lot faster
.
Many kids are more willing to learn if they have help from a computer.Computers can cause special students to interact with the teachers and class better than writing responds can. Students can use technology to learn better and also earn better grades in school.Learning can be fun and easy to use with most types of technology.
How the iPad Works with Academics for Autism
How the ipad works with kids with autism; Ipads are wonderful devices that can be uses to help children with autism.Children can learn and have fun at the same time.A great way for a child to learn is to be able to see and hear something at the same time. I learn better when I see something being done rather than being told how to do something. All kids are capable of learning they just need someone to help find the learning style that is best for them.
apps can be helpful tools for instance, the myHomework app. This app in particular would help accommodate a child with a speech difficulty. Like the video, it would allow the child to express himself better and captivate there attention at the same time. Some apps even enlarge pictures/letters and make lots of noises. They also help students write better. There are numerous dynamic apps today. In general technology helps all students learn regardless of there conditions. When I become a teacher I will most definitely utilize the various sorts of apps, to increase learning, to better communication, and exceed student's overall learning capabilities.
Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
I strongly agree with this video. I believe I would not be as lost as I am now with this class if I would have had taken a class like the one on this video when I was younger. I believe technology plays an important role in education. Not only is Vicki Davis letting her students use the latest technology and software, but she is letting them communicate with different students all over the world.
I Think that Ms.Davis is doing an excellent job allow her student to learn and think using technology.People such as my self have more fun learn when they are doing something that they enjoy doing.I much rather learn with a fun computer program then to look at textbooks.

DID YOU KNOW?
The did you know video was very interesting to me. This video made me aware that technology is quickly changing everyday. The video also reminded me to pay attention to the technology that is changing around me or I will be left out.It is also disappointing that a lot of the things I learned my freshman year are now consider outdated. New and more improved version of computers are also coming out.
This video was also scary to me because it stated,"China will be the number one English speaking country in the world. It also stated that 25% of India's population has a higher IQ than in the population of the United States. What does this all mean? Is the U.S. that far behind? How can another country speak our language, that we have been speaking all our lives, better than we can? This video is not just
scary it's crazy. We, as Americans, need to get with the program. We need to learn as much about technology as we can, so that we do not get left behind in this fast paced world.
MR.WINKLE AWAKE
The video had a cute little story in it about an old man that went to sleep and woke up to new technology everywhere, except in schools. This video reminds me of my grandma and her old friend who are a lot like Mr. Winkle. They are so afraid of new technologies. Most of them avoid it as much as possible.
Technology is changing quickly and it should be taught to everyone. Schools should try to keep up with all of the latest technology so that they can teach it to the students.Schools should also make sure that they have updated equipment to teach their students. If the school can not afford the equipment, then they should have fundraisers or ask the student that have computers or iPads to bring them to school. Since most kids already own these devices, it should be easy for children to use the divices to learn new things.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVITY
This video really made me think about the way that I view creativity. I absolutely agree with Mr. Robinson when he says school kills creativity. They want every student to be functioning on the same level. I think this handicaps our advanced kids and sets up below average students for failure. This also raises the question, why would you want everybody on the same level? Everybody is not going to be doctors or lawyers. So each Kid need to be able to as creative as they can be so that they will not lose the passion for the things that they like.
The best point made in this video was that kids will take chances, and they don't mind being wrong. On the other hand, adults lose this because they've been ridiculed so much that the desire to think differently is not there. Mr. Robinson explains we should use art, music, drama, and dance to engage learning. We, as adults, have to learn how not to be afraid of being wrong. We must make mistakes in order to grow.
A Day Made of Glass
Wow,I am speechless. I cant believe that a thin peice of glass can do so much. This tablet that Corners is creating will really change the world. The system looks like it could make a lot of daily tasks become easier for some people. The tablet can be compatible with the door, wall, car etc. The tablet can help children learn while making it fun at the same time.
Mr.Winkle should have been sitting in this classroom. He would have been outdone by the technology being used by students. Nothing in this classroom would have been the same. In the classroom the kids where not even using textbooks. Instead they were learning through a smart tablet that interacted with the teachers. All of the students seemed as if they where having fun while they learned. I would love to someday teach a class where children can learn like this.

About me
Hi, my name is Kabrina Harris.I am 24 years old. I grew up in a small town called Citronelle, Alabama.I lived there until I was about 17 years old. At the age of 17, I moved to Saraland, Alabama. I currently still live in Saraland.I work part time at a local Wal- Mart as a cashier in the garden center.I enjoy meeting new people and talking on the phone.Last year, I gave birth to my first child. I named him Zaylon. He is my pride and joy. I will be getting married in the fall of next year. My major is Early Childhood Education.I chose this major because I love to be around small children. I hope to be a first grade teacher. The reason I want to teach first grade is because first graders are able to do a little more than lower levels. I wouldn't have to start from the beginning. I could start with the concepts that they have already learned.
Randy Pausch
The Randy Pausch You Tube video on time management taught me a few helpful tips on how to manage my time in this class as well as other classes. The first thing that I need to learn to do is set some goals and understand why I am setting these goals. He also made a good point in the video about not worrying over making things perfect. The most important thing to do is make sure that you get the task done. The more that you do the task the better you will became at doing the task. Things get better with time and practice. A good way to take on a list of tasks is to start with the biggest task first then come back to the smaller task. It takes the most time to deal with harder tasks, so it is helpful to knock them out of the way first.

My Test Post Title

This is my first post. I clicked the HTML button which I should always do. I am now a blogger.
